Evoluent Vertical Mouse4 Right Hand Mac Mouse Usb For Mac
Pointer control is as accurate as any other good mouse when the pointer speed settings are properly adjusted. All 6 buttons are easily operable without contorting your fingers. The button force is light for easy clicking, but still firm enough to avoid accidental actuation. A small lip on the bottom edge prevents the little finger from rubbing the desk. NEW FEATURES of the newest version - the Evoluent Vertical 4: - more contoured shape to better fit users' hands - the option to change cursor speed without changing your grip on the mouse - a sleep mode to conserve notebook battery power. The Evoluent Vertical Mouse is the only approved ergonomic mouse of University of California at Berkeley.
The scroll wheel has discrete “notches” as you rotate it (my preference is for a smooth scroll wheel), and as a button it’s so stiff that I had press my thumb against the thumb rest to offer opposing resistance, else I’d push the whole mouse over. Perhaps the biggest hardware change from version 3 to version 4 is that the new VerticalMouse is no longer wired—it connects to your Mac using Bluetooth. The company says a single AA battery should give you about three months of typical use. But the most-welcome change from when I last used a VerticalMouse is the bundled software driver that lets you customize the mouse’s buttons and adjust the pointer and scrolling speed. The software is straightforward and doesn’t have any special enhancements, but it’s a relief that Mac users no longer need to spend extra money on. Evoluent offers two versions of the VerticalMouse 4 for Mac.
Unfortunately, the VerticalMouse 4 for Mac is available only for right-handers. Evoluent has a $100 left-handed VerticalMouse 4, but instead of Bluetooth, it connects to your computer using USB. Install Instructions. Before connecting Evoluent VerticalMouse, go to the Applications folder to find and remove any existing Evoluent Mouse Manager and any other mouse software, except touchpad drivers, to avoid software conflict. The Evoluent VerticalMouse 2 (an earlier model identical in concept) was evaluated in 2007 by a team at the health services clinic in UC Berkeley, including medical doctors, physical therapists, ergonomists, and administrators.
It’s objectively better, and I shudder to think how many people are just now developing injuries from using a horrid flat mouse on a daily basis. $89.95 Evoluent aren’t the only manufacturers of a vertical mouse of course, but they are one of the few with genuine Amazon reviews and satisfied users. If you’re suffering from RSI or wrist strain of any kind that you suspect might be due your mouse, try the Evoluent Vertical mouse. I guarantee it’ll be better than the cheap bundled thing you’re using now. Upgrade now and do your wrist a massive favor–you’ll thank me in 20 years.

I can't believe how many years I used the $$mouse that comes with a computer. Rated 3 out of 5 by Trill from Pain Returned I have a wowpen that I didn't like when I first got it, because it was heavier than my other mouse, and I don't like it that it doesn't have a lip at the bottom outside for my pinky. Plus, it's super hard to click. But I got it out again recently when my light, regular, 3-button mouse gave out on me, and, after using it for a few days, noticed that some shoulder pain that I've had for years was going away.
Simply connect it using an available USB port. Rated 5 out of 5 by MystrE from Really helps me I purchased this mouse to assist me in trying to prevent the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome with my hand and wrist.

Evoluent Vertical Mouse 4 Right Hand Mac Mouse Usb For Mac
Rated 5 out of 5 by AC00 from Excellent Ergonomic Mouse This mouse definitely requires a bit of a learning curve, as it is completely different from any mouse I have ever used. The mouse functionality stacks vertically, rather than horizontally, which is quite the change. However, I am no longer getting any pain in my fingers, wrist, or forearms since I started using this mouse.
'Handshake Mouse' - Evoluent Vertical Mouse 4 Click to enlarge image(s) Knowing The Facts about the 'Handshake Mouse' The patented shape of Ergonomic Evoluent Mouse 4 supports your hand in a fully upright handshake position that eliminates forearm twisting. Mouse 4 is the newest, improved version. Many users said earlier models relieved their hand, wrist, or arm pain. An ordinary horizontal mouse requires your forearm to twist away from its natural position.
Once you’re all set up, the additional buttons are powerful, and can be integrated with any standard shortcuts or custom keyboard combinations. After playing around with a few configurations, I setup to the thumb buttons as copy and paste. This is something I do a lot with URLs when editing reviews, so it made sense to put these as one button shortcuts. My Experience with the Evoluent Vertical Mouse I use a Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic keyboard daily for all my typing, so I certainly recognise the value of comfortable input device for extended periods of use. For my pointer needs, I pair that with an –the large white slab of frosted glass. While I appreciated being able to use the Evoluent’s extra buttons for some custom shortcuts, I found myself missing the gestures of the Trackpad even more. This was especially noticeable in Final Cut, where zooming in and out, and scrolling horizontally, just weren’t possible without additional keyboard strokes.
While the ergonomic merits of each approach are open for debate, the simple fact remains that the VerticalMouse 4 (for Mac) is comfortable, and the handshake grip isn't uncomfortable. While previous versions of the VerticalMouse have a matte finish, the Mac-specific model has an almost glossy finish, but it's not a huge difference.

In either case: the promises to alleviate the strain a typical mouse can put on your forearm. Let’s take a closer look, and evaluate that claim. At the end of this review, we’re giving one away to a lucky reader. $89.95 The Evoluent Wireless Vertical Mouse is available now for under $100, in right or left handed configurations, as well as small and standard size. We tested the right handed, standard size–their most popular model. Design If you’re buying a mouse to help prevent or ease the symptoms of a wrist strain injury, the looks of the device are probably not that high on your list of requirements. Which is good, because the incongruent design messages and mixed materials aren’t really something to shout about.
The Apple Trackpad also has a delightful haptic motor inside, which clicks back at you in supported applications–such as lining things up in Pages or Keynote. Of course, these aren’t complaints aimed at the Evoluent Vertical Mouse. My point is merely that if you’re going to spend $100 or so on a new pointing device, and you own a Mac, you might prefer to do away with mice entirely and get the Apple Trackpad, as I did. Since most of my computing is done on the keyboard anyway, the sheer size of the Evoluent Vertical Mouse was a downside for me. I’m so used to just pivoting and sliding my right arm back to the keyboard. With the Evoluent device standing about 8cm high, that just wasn’t possible, and instead required me to lift my arm each time.

After a week of trying to use the Evoluent Vertical mouse instead, I’m sticking with my big Trackpad. Is The Evoluent Vertical Mouse for You? There’s no doubt that the Evoluent Vertical Mouse is a significant step up from regular mice for comfort.
Our review unit has a white plastic enclosure, being the European model of the VM4 for Mac. Stateside, the same mouse is sold exclusively through the Apple store, and comes in black. Aside from the difference in color, the two models are identical. The mouse itself has several buttons, far more than you'll find on the that comes with Apple desktops. Instead of one mouse button for clicking, there are three: the left-click, double-click, and right-click. A scroll wheel works just like any other, though the change in orientation left me slightly confused for a while about which was up and which was downmy own confusion, surely, but there nonetheless.
I have been using the mice for 3 weeks.
Ergonomics behind the Evoluent VerticalMouse The design of the Evoluent improves comfort and control when mousing. The patented shape supports your hand in a relaxed handshake position while allowing the thumb to rest in a naturally contoured notch. This positioning eliminates forearm twisting and minimizes the effort required to use the mouse. The mouse remains stable when pressing buttons because the thumb naturally opposes the finger movements. Ordinary Horizontal Mice The classic horizontal design twists the arm. A regular mouse requires your forearm to twist away from its natural position, which can reduce blood flow, put muscles in awkward positions and increase the rate of fatigue and for many, discomfort and pain while mousing. Learning Curve?
Still searching for my holy grail of mice. I am on the computer many hours a day every day and I have rheumatoid arthritis. I do think that this mouse is better than a regular flat mouse, and I know several people who've used it and swear by it, and have relieved pain with it. It just didn't work out for me. Rated 5 out of 5 by nukwar from A mouse that doen't hurt the forearm I use the Evoluent for my main computer.
Mac OS warns you about this, and gives you a direct link to the relevant tab, but I found the Allow button didn’t actually do anything until about 30 seconds later. The driver install requires a restart too, which is mildly infuriating. If your machine isn’t equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 adaptor, you can use the included dongle. It’s a tiny little unobtrusive thing.
My hand is in a completely natural position. The learning curve has been to train my fingers to access the features and functions available with this mouse. I would highly recommend this mouse to anyone experiencing this type of pain. Rated 5 out of 5 by drwhite from Best mouse on market 1. Comfort: No carpal tunnel aches and pains with this mouse.2. Use: Natural hand position makes use very easy.
• Pros Ergonomic design. Multiple buttons for broad functionality.
After the driver is installed, button functions may be changed by clicking the E icon in System Preferences to open Evoluent Mouse Manager for Mac. The driver may be removed by going to the Applications folder, Evoluent folder and clicking Uninstall. Replace the AA battery when a red light on the thumb rest blinks, or when the pointer becomes unresponsive.
Same button operation as regular mouse, right click/left click.3. Options: Complete customizable, make the buttons (5 of them)do what you want them to do. Quickly change between different applications.4. I am buying my second one after just over two years of use. The wheel axis is not seated anymore, it wiggles. But that is not enough to stop me from wanting another one.
